Ive gone to a lot of auctions in my time, and witnessed something unheard of today! There was a group of us at a salvage auction held by Glenn Martindale in North Bend, NE.
I was shocked and appalled. I left my information as a witness to the crime so if charges are pressed I can testify in court. I know that the police and news were called.
Needless to say, I will NEVER attend another Glenn Martindale auction, and am recommending ALL my friends and business associates stay away too! WHO KNOWS - YOU may be next in line to get punched, or at the very least lose the item you bidded on AND WON!! How disgusting and out of line on so many levels....
A younger gentleman won a bid on a piece of equipment, this Caterpillar. Anyway, about 20 minutes later he was talking to the auctioneer, who I believe was named Brad. The winning bidder was calm and hands were in his pockets. The next events I heard and saw went as follows: the auctioneer said loudly "I dont give a (F word) if you won the bid, I'm buying that Caterpillar! Get the (F word) off this podium and out of here!" And immediately this Brad punched the man in the chest, fairly hard! It was pure and simple ASSAULT as the man was not acting in a threatening way whatsoever!!
And first of all, that bid is a legally binding contract, everyone knows about the auction terms you sign as a bidder. The man won the machinery fair and square. I don't believe he received it in the end.
